2010 WOMBAT 3K REPORT

WOMBAT 3K BEACH RACE The Wombat 3k Beach Race took place on Saturday 5th June and attracted a broad range of runners of young and old down to Abersoch Main Beach for the start. The race set off at 9.45 am when nearly 200 runners took to the sand with a huge crowd providing great support. The event was a fantastic success with 3 times the entries of the launch race in 2009 and was enjoyed by many families and enthusiastic spectators. The weather provided brilliant running conditions with a bright day but with a cool breeze, resulting in some fast times. The winner of the Wombat 3K for the boys was William Sheridan with a time of 13:59 and the winner for the girls was Abbie Oliver with a time of 15:24. All the runners did extremely well dealing with the great course that consists of sand, tracks, and a few groynes thrown in for good measure! Quite a few even went on to complete the 10k race half an hour later! This year also saw the introduction of a 1k and 2k beach race for local school children. It was promoted in local schools and over 130 kids took part. This is a great way to build up to the more competitive 3K race and you never know, a future 10k winner! For full results CLICK HERE The organisers would like to extend a huge thankyou to all those involved including title sponsors POWERADE, as well as REEBOK, WOMBAT & D-TAG and especially W&G Williams for the use of the beach and facilities.
