ABERSOCH RNLI

For 2011 the Abersoch 10K & Wombat 3K Beach Race will be raising money for the Abersoch Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Providing 24 hour lifesaving service for Abersoch and the surrounding coast, the service is invaluable to anyone that ventures out on the water. The purely voluntery crew have been keeping the Cardigan Bay coastline safe for over 100 years and relies heavily on fund raising. Money raised from the Abersoch 10K will go directly to the Abersoch Lifeboat Station so please consider helping raising money yourself by requesting a sponsorship form when you enter or just donating on the day.

Since Abersoch RNLI Lifeboat Station was established in 1869 it's dedicated generations of volunteer crew members have launched their inshore lifeboat 934 times, rescued 828 people and saved over 244 lives. In short, over the years they've rescued almost the equivalent number of people to the population of Abersoch itself. This year alone Abersoch lifeboat has launched 3 times and rescued 2 people and the team of volunteer crew are gearing up for another busy Summer. If last year was anything to go by, the Abersoch Lifeboat launched 40 times and rescued 63 people, five of those services were done in darkness. After closing between 1931 and 1965, the station has completed an aggregate of 108 years of service, saving lives at sea. Over the years two prestigious Silver medals have been awarded to the volunteer crew of Abersoch for their courage and seamanship displayed while saving those in danger.
